What is EDM?

Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a novel machining method, with the ability to cut into any conductive material. Contrasting with conventional machining, EDM erodes a workpieces using sparks. The complete lack of contact means that there is no tool pressure, and likewise no deformation. This is why EDM is favored in industries using very robust materials, such as aerospace, biomedical technology, defense, and energy. EDM machines can drill into tool steels, titanium, silver, copper, aluminum, hastalloy, kovar, carbide, inconel, iron, molybdenum, chromium, cobalt, manganese, zirconium, tungsten, tantalum, and niobium, or any other conductive material.
